The City of Zurich has selected <\/span>Recoal<\/span><\/b> as one of the innovative startups to receive support through its prestigious <\/span>KlimUp funding program<\/a><\/b>, in partnership with Bluelion<\/a><\/b><\/span>. This decision highlights the city\u2019s commitment to fostering early-stage technologies that can deliver real and lasting contributions to climate protection.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

Recoal impressed the KlimUp jury with its ability to transform wet-waste biomass into <\/span>hydrochar<\/span>, a stable form of carbon that locks away CO\u2082 for the long term. At a time when businesses and governments worldwide are urgently seeking solutions for achieving net-zero, Recoal\u2019s technology directly addresses the challenge of removing unavoidable emissions while simultaneously contributing to the circular economy.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

KlimUp specifically supports projects that create measurable climate impact. To be selected, startups must align with four priority areas: reducing direct emissions, advancing negative emissions technologies, promoting intelligent and efficient resource use, and driving circular economy models. Recoal\u2019s approach checks all of these boxes<\/b>: it delivers permanent negative emissions, reduces reliance on waste disposal methods that release greenhouse gases, transforms discarded biomass into a valuable climate solution, and creates a pathway for companies to credibly compensate for their residual emissions.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n
